Los Angeles Curated--This is the year I....(January 2026)
Dear Reader,
My last newsletter about finding community really resonated with a lot of people. I have had several of you reach out to me about my neighborhood Discord group—how they can join and how to start one. (I love the interaction, please keep it coming when anything resonates with you.)
I want to just start out by saying that the last eight months have been hard for me. I was born near Chicago, formed in Minneapolis, and am, as you know, a lover of Los Angeles. I am having a hard time showing up as myself right now. So my note this month is brief.
I started a theme in my recent paid subscriber newsletter that I want to continue this month for everyone.

Your One Thing To Do, See, And Support This Month in Los Angeles
(My not-so-secret mission to get you out and exploring Los Angeles’ small businesses and stop funding corporate chains.)

This Is The Year You…Finally, do DineLA (SUPPORT)
I recently reviewed one of my Los Angeles itinerary games and had to delist it from my shops due to the many business closures in 2025. Restaurants were the hardest hit. Over 100 restaurants have closed in the past year in L.A. County.
DineLA is one of the best ways to find your next favorite restaurant in the city. Each participating location offers a prix fixe best-of-the-best from the menu for a fraction of the usual price. DineLA runs from 1/23/26-2/3/26.
Here are my suggestions (Recommended and worth it.)
I am hosting my first “I Want To Get Out and Do Stuff” meet-up on Saturday (In 2 days!). We are doing a French Dip versus. It is our last chance to do this before Cole’s closes at the end of January.

This is the Year You….. See the Natural History Museum during First Fridays (SEE)
NHM’s First Fridays is celebrating 20 years this year. If you haven’t gone or this is your first time hearing about the event, this is your sign to go. See exhibits after hours, grab a cocktail, hear great science talks, and dance to music provided by local DJs. This year’s theme is LIFE, exploring it from the micro level to entire universes.
First Fridays start on February 6th.
(they also have a cat video fest the weekend before)
If you are surprised that you subscribed to a newsletter about Los Angeles, I want you to know I write about the world, too, in the same way. (Art, food, and supporting small businesses wherever you go.)
